I receive lots of inquiries from people on the subject of why some people do and some don't succeed in network marketing.

So, why do 97% of people who join and MLM fail?

There are plenty of ways to approach these questions, but I'm going to stick to the 6 most shared responses.

6 Reasons Most People Don't Succeed in Network Marketing:

1. They think of their networking biz as hobby. Even on limited time, treating your business like a hobby is bound to produce very little. Network Marketing is a BUSINESS and should be treated as such. Just like becoming a MD requires education, learning enough to become successful in networkgin does also.

2. They don't believe in what they are doing. Too often people go into this business "wanting" to create success, yet they don't fully believe in it. Doubting the MLM industry model you have joined almost guarantees your failure.

3. They lie to themselves. People often kid themselves into believing they are actually conducting REVENUE PRODUCING ACTIVITIES, yet the reality is that many of them are simply being BUSY. If you aren't prospecting and exposing, you aren't really doing network marketing.... it's just marketing! You must be on the phone for it to be networking!

4. Shifting blame to anything but themselves. People who don't make money quickly point the finger at their sponsor, their company, the product, the tools or any other myriad of choices where their finger can point. Bottom line: If others in your company are killing it, but you're not, look in the mirror. In the end, all responsibility for you is yours.

5. Frequent company changes. It often looks better on the other side, but it seldom is. The solution is not in a different opportunity. The solution is working on you, your skills, and your work ethic.

6. No get up and go. Quite frankly, I think this is one of the most common reasons for failure. People say they "want" success, that they "want" freedom, but they avoid digging in and putting in the effort. If getting rich was easy, you would see way more Mercedes and BMW's driving around.


So...to the other side of the coin: What are the Secrets to Success in Network Marketing?


1. First of all, let me say that THERE ARE NO MLM SECRETS! Success at anything requires hard, consistent work that is focused on developing your MLM skills. Ask Michael Jordan how hard he practiced... Every day requires diligent effort that is on task and pertinent to your business.

2. Many successful people firmly state that you must create positive thought patterns, because you are who you believe yourself to be. Mike Dillard mentions this... T Harv Eker drills this into you in his seminars and books. How you view your self, your business, your products, your leadership... all affect how you interact with others and can either build your business or ruin it.

3. Be focused on your MLM company. People who change companies several times a year are kidding themselves (see #5 above). If this is your pattern, it's time for you to work on you! Sometimes an MLM opportunity comes along at the right time, with the right product and the right company leadership. That's pretty rare. Stick with what you know - commit 1-2 years in your network marketing business.

4. Work longer and harder than you have in the past. If this is something you really want, you'll put in the time and effort necessary, even when you don't feel like it.

5. You are the average of the 5 closest friends you have. If your friends have what you have, you're not going anywhere! You have to surround yourself with successful people. No, you don't have to give up your friendships! But you must buy books and CD's made by people that have what you want. Befriend people who inspire you. Expand yourself by taking in what they do! Concentrate on your personal development, so that you build a stronger belief in your capabilities.

Use personal development to create leadership skills. Beleive it or not, nobody will ever consciously join your mlm just because it's such a great opportunity. People, by nature, want your leadership and guidance. They are joining YOU. Get used to it. That's why you've had limited success up 'til now selling your "opportunity".

6. Last, but not least.... DO NOT EVER give up. It may be easiest to quit, but the most successful people in any industry know that nothing worthy of achieving comes from taking the easy route. It may not be comfortable, even demoralizing, but each day is a new opportunity to improve on the day before. A loss is a loss. It happens. There will be more games.
